Albert Anastasia was born In Tropea, the region of Calabria on 26 September  1902.

He comes to the United States to 1919. In 1921 he was accused of murdering Joe Torino but witnesses are murdered and absolved him. He Spend a few years in the prison Sing Sing.

After that he started to work for the group of Joe Masseria and that is where he met Lucky Luciano and Frank Costello. It is believed that he participated in the assassination of Joe Masseria during the War of the Castellammarese.

Later he became the head of Murder Inc., an organization composed of skilled murderers, mostly Jews, who spread terror throughout the U.S. territory in the service of the Cosa Nostra. It is believed that Murder Inc. made between 400 and 700 murders. They are highly educated and prepared for killing people and doing dirty jobs.

Anastasia was a kind of a sociopath. He is believed to have been responsible for more than 100 murders and in total only spent about 4 years in jail. Soon after arrestment he had been liberated.

Anastasia was removed in 1951 to Vincent Mangano, head of his family and a member of the Commission. As head of a family Anastasia had become too ambitious a man, moreover, its extreme violence was not well regarded by the other chiefs. For example, ordered to remove a whistleblower that had nothing to do with Cosa Nostra, only because he had ratted and had seen on television.

In addition, Anastasia sold positions to become full member of the mob for $ 50,000, something that was a disgrace for the Cosa Nostra. That honor should earn over the years and was reserved for very few. In 1956 starts to lose power, never missed an opportunity Vito Genovese to conspire against him, Genovese also always wanted to become boss of bosses and had little appreciation for Anastasia.

In August 1957 Frank Scalise, was eliminated while buying fruit (do you remember The Godfather?). Carlo Gambino, capo of Anastasia, enjoyed the favor of the Commission to consider him a true man of honor, came to hold the post Scalise.

On the morning of 25 October 1957, Gambino, according to the FBI, was speaking with the boss Albert Anastasia about the problems of the family. Something that Anastasia did not know was that it took months when Gambino contacted Vito Genovese, Luciano, Lansky, Profaci and Bonanno. Gambino phoned Joe Profaci and said, “At 10, the Park Sheraton Hotel barbershop”.
Anastasia entered the hotel, sat down, but did not notice the entrance of the Gallo brothers, Joe and Albert, perhaps with the help of Carmine Persico, who worked for Profaci. He was beaten at that moment. The Gallo brothers end the life of Anastasia on 25 October 1957 at the Park Sheraton Hotel barbershop. Carlo Gambino, who was behind the death of Anastasia took control of the family which later bear his name so he became the most important in New York and the most powerful man in Cosa Nostra.
